Congress Center Leipzig wins new meetings for Leipzig

The KONGRESSHALLE am Zoo Leipzig is increasingly hosting events of complex formats

The Congress Center Leipzig (CCL) and the KONGRESSHALLE am Zoo Leipzig will be participating in IMEX 2018 in Frankfurt. Together with the "Feel the spirit...do-it-at-leipzig.de" campaign they present Leipzig as a meeting destination. Find them at stand G 170.

2017 was a year of considerable variety and brought 73 events with 93,500 participants to the Congress Center Leipzig (CCL). The KONGRESSHALLE am Zoo Leipzig, too, looks back on a positive development, hosting 105 events with 55.500 visitors. One of the venue’s most recent successes has been winning the bid for the green meetings und events conference which will bring together German-speaking meetings industry suppliers and experts in 1919.

Having been awarded with the Meeting Experts Green Award previously, the CCL who operate the KONGRESSHALLE, and fairgourmet who are its exclusive catering supplier, are particularly happy to welcome green meetings and events 2019 there. The CCL received the award in 2013 for the ICCA Green Traffic Project, and fairgourmet in 2017, to acknowledge their sustainable catering policies and action.

More and more often, the KONGRESSHALLE is hosting meetings and events of a complex nature, involving a high number of rooms over several days and a longer decision-making process. Among them are many scientific meetings and corporate business events. Attractive events feature in the venue’s 2019 calendar, such as the Federal Young Scientists’ Contest ‘Jugend forscht’, and the Louis Braille Festival.

Local clusters of excellence convince meeting planners

Alongside events which are coming to the CCL repeatedly, such as the LINC Leipzig Interventional Course, the German X-Ray Congress or the OECD’s International Transport Forum, the venue will also host meetings which rotate between destinations. Such include the Annual Meeting of the German Society of Radio-oncology to be held in June, and the German-speaking SAP Users‘ Convention to be held in October.

While the German Interdisciplinary Society for Intensive and Emergency Medicine, with its 6,000-people congress, usually rotates between Hamburg and Leipzig and has been at the CCL in December 2017, it will come to Leipzig in 2018, too, because the Hamburg venue is undergoing reconstruction works. The same reconstruction works prompted the Chaos Computer Club to look for a new venue for its Chaos Communication Congress. In December 2017 the CCL hosted the world’s largest non-commercial gathering of computer hackers which brought some 15,000 people to the city.

The close link between Leipzig’s acknowledged excellence in science and the CCL’s renown as a quality meeting venue played an important part in winning the bid to host the 2018 congress of the International Society for Microbial Ecology (ISME). Key to success was the CCL’s close co-operation with the UFZ Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research and Professor Dr. Hauke Harms who already chaired the international microbiologists’ congress FEMS in 2013. Some 2,500 participants are expected to attend the ISME congress in autumn 2018.

Some 3,000 delegates from the fields of law, politics, business and science will attend the 72nd German Bar Association’s convention in September. The last time that Europe’s most important congress on law was held in Leipzig was in the year 2000.

About the CCL and the KONGRESSHALLE am Zoo Leipzig

The Congress Center Leipzig (CCL) belongs to Leipziger Messe group of companies and is part of the Leipzig Trade Fair and Exhibition Centre. It is one of the most modern meeting venues Europe. A special feature of the CCL is customized support for each event, and the complete range of event-related services. Every year, the CCL hosts approximately 100 meetings and conference programs. The flexible concept for the use of space, with 23 independent halls and rooms, exhibition halls that can be integrated as required, and the Glass Hall as an event location, makes it possible to hold events of almost any size and any kind.

Beyond its own venue, the CCL team operates the KONGRESSHALLE am Zoo Leipzig, a modern meeting venue in historical guise. The fine Wilhelminian and Art Nouveau-style edifice in the heart of Leipzig features 15 halls and rooms, several foyers and exhibition space. The CCL and the KONGRESSHALLE am Zoo are members of the 'do-it-at-leipzig.de' campaign, an alliance of meetings industry suppliers in Leipzig who are jointly committed to maintaining highest standards throughout Leipzig as a meeting destination.
